When a procedure isn't the first step
A procedure isn't the right starting point for everyone. Your BMI may be below the usual range for a procedure, you may prefer to try medication first, or you may simply not be ready. Medical weight loss gives you a doctor-led plan without a procedure.
At SmartSleeveMD, that care comes through our medical partner, WeightSimple. WeightSimple also provides the aftercare for our procedure patients, so it's the same partner whichever path you take.
What medical weight loss with WeightSimple involves
WeightSimple's care is fully virtual, with no clinic visits needed. It includes:
- Obesity medicine physicians who assess you and build your plan
- GLP-1 and GIP medications, when clinically appropriate
- A registered dietitian and custom meal plans
- A registered psychologist for behavioural support, and a psychiatrist if needed
- Remote patient monitoring with connected devices, and help with insurance claims
Appetite is driven by hormones and biology, so the plan works on more than one front: medication for hunger signals where clinically appropriate, and dietitian and behavioural support for portions, pace, and routines.
Who medical weight loss may suit
It may be worth considering if:
- Your BMI is under 27, below the usual range for a procedure
- Your BMI is 27 to 35 and you'd rather begin with medication-based care than a temporary balloon
- You want to try medication before thinking about a procedure
- You aren't ready for a procedure
WeightSimple offers this care to eligible patients.
How it fits with a procedure
Medical care and a procedure aren't either/or.
Before a procedure
If you go ahead with a procedure, WeightSimple physicians review your health first, manage conditions like diabetes or blood pressure, and adjust medication where clinically indicated. A dietitian sets your pre-procedure diet, and a psychologist helps you prepare for how eating and routines will change. At a BMI of 40 and above, we may recommend medically supervised weight loss before surgery to improve safety.
After a procedure
A procedure changes how much you can eat, but it doesn't reach every hunger signal. After any of our procedures, WeightSimple continues with remote monitoring, dietitian and psychologist follow-up, and medication management if clinically indicated. This is part of the two years of follow-up and aftercare, plus 3+ more years of support, included in every procedure price. See the care journey
Starting with medication and deciding later
If you begin with WeightSimple and later choose a procedure, the same care team can continue with you, and your progress comes with you. If you've lost weight on a GLP-1 and are worried about keeping it off, ESG with medication support is one option to ask about.
