What Is a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB)?

This popular surgical procedure divides the stomach into two parts: a small upper chamber or pouch where food is received, the remainder of the stomach is left within the abdomen and does not receive any food. The new miniaturized stomach pouch is then connected to a segment of the small intestine allowing food eaten to pass a good portion of the intestinal tract. The miniaturized stomach restricts food intake and rerouting of the food via the ‘bypass’ reduces calorie absorption; together, these effects combine for significant weight loss.
Our specialized virtual clinic will provide long term follow up wherever you are to ensure your nutrition is optimized and avoid any potential malabsorption side effects.
