How it works

Keyhole surgery, explained step by step.

SADI begins with a sleeve gastrectomy, then connects the first part of the small intestine directly to a lower part with a single connection. It is a simpler version of the duodenal switch and is associated with the highest weight loss of the procedures we offer.

Anesthesia
General anesthesia
Hospital stay
Typically 2 to 3 days
Long-term vitamins
Lifelong supplementation
Can it be reversed?
No. SADI is permanent
  1. Keyhole surgery

You are under general anesthesia. The surgeon works through several small incisions of 0.5 to 1.5 cm.

  2. A sleeve is created

About 80% of the stomach is removed, leaving a narrow sleeve that limits how much you can eat and lowers hunger hormones.

  3. One intestinal connection

The duodenum (the first part of the small intestine) is joined to the ileum (a lower part) with a single connection, so fewer calories are absorbed.

  4. Lifelong nutrition follow-up

Because absorption changes, SADI needs lifelong vitamin and nutrient supplementation and regular bloodwork.

Questions about SADI

Frequently asked.

What is SADI?

SADI (single anastomosis duodeno-ileal bypass) is a simpler version of the duodenal switch that uses one intestinal connection. Published literature reports the highest total body weight loss of the bariatric procedures we offer, at 35 to 45%.

My BMI is over 40. Which procedure might suit me?

Sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and SADI are the options most often discussed at BMI 40 and above. We may recommend medically supervised weight loss before surgery to improve safety.

Will I need vitamins for life?

Yes. SADI changes how nutrients are absorbed, so lifelong vitamin and nutrient supplementation and regular bloodwork are part of the plan. Your WeightSimple dietitian and physician monitor this with you.

How long will I stay after surgery?

Most SADI patients stay 2 to 3 days after surgery. Your surgeon will confirm your plan before your procedure date.
